We always have to be mindful of our kids even if we are busy. We never know what could be waiting right around the corner. But luckily for families who have dogs, they can rely on their pups to save the day, even if it means sacrificing their own lives for their humans.
Fortunately for this two-year-old pitbull named Annabelle, she didn’t have to do that. However, she had to endure a couple of bites from a rattlesnake to protect her human. During the summer, rattlesnakes become pretty adventurous and invasive in California that’s why residents are always keeping an eye out for them.
Unfortunately, despite Rachell Light’s vigilance, a rattlesnake made its way into her yard where her two-year-old son, Zaylen was playing. Rachell was barbecuing that fateful day, and then she noticed that their pittie Annabelle kept barking like crazy.
Rachell rushed to the yard to check why their doggo was acting so strange, and she was shocked to find a rattlesnake in their yard, just a few feet away from Zaylen. Annabelle then lunged at the snake to protect her human, and she got bit twice on the face for her trouble.
The pittie was successful in killing the reptile, but her face had become swollen due to the venom. Rachell rushed the pupper to the Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital to receive antivenom. The grateful dog mom explained that she wasn’t happy that her fur baby was bitten, but it would’ve been fatal if it were Zaylen as they live an hour away from the hospital.
Word about Annabelle’s bravery spread quickly on the internet and people who heard about the pooch donated over $1,000 to cover her veterinary expenses. Rachell was touched by how people whom she doesn’t even know personally worked together to help their family. Heroes like Annabelle deserved all the help that she received because if it weren’t for her, this story would’ve had a sad ending.
